One Piece Rewind - Top 10 Manga Moments Of 2015 Brought to you by Oro Jackson Welcome to "One Piece Rewind" brought to you by Oro Jackson, our annual article taking you back to the previous year with Top 10 Moments of 2015. Our "One Piece Rewind" apart from being a Top 10 list also serves as a reminder to all fans of what Eiichiro Oda provided to us during the previous year and to look forward to all the great One Piece content that's yet to come! Now, let's rewind back to 2015 and take a look at the Top 10 One Piece (manga chapter 773 to 811) moments of 2015! Number 10: Franky My Dear, I Really Do Give a Damn "To me, Russian, these clothes are worth more than any priceless suit. Because when I'm wearing them... I can see you smile again!!!" A SMILE Factory to be brought down, countless Tontatta Tribe members to be saved, a critical mission handed over to Franky. It was short work for him, he was cleaning up the lower ranks of the Donquixote Family pretty easily on his way to destroy the SMILE Factory... until Señor Pink appeared as his opponent! Thus began a battle between two hard-boiled men which will go down in the history books as one of the most hard-boiled fights we've witnessed in our lifetime. With a lot riding on Franky's successful execution of his part in the SOP Strategy he had to win his battle against Señor Pink, no matter what. Franky v.s Señor Pink was one of the most loved battles in Dressrosa, the characters and their traits added to the battle - little panels of them being hard-boiled, the "puppy love" panels, exchange of many manly fists - Señor Pink won the hearts of many fans during the fight. As the fight came to its conclusion, with one attack each from both the hard-boiled men, Oda took us on a ride on the feels train with a flashback explaining Señor Pink's character, and all fans shouted together - "RUSSSIAN!!" They wish to drink together, sometime in the future. The fight came to an end with Franky as the victor, leading to the destruction of the SMILE factory and the crumbling of everything Doflamingo had worked all these years for. Franky's victory over Señor Pink set in motion many events in Dressrosa, and everlasting memories in our hearts about a girl named "Russian" who made Señor Pink cry. Number 09: You May Have Diamonds, But You've Got No Leg to Stand On "My lost leg is a mark of pride!! I gave it to save the man I owe the world!!!" He sacrificed his leg in order to save the wronged king, he was forgotten by everyone he cared about, he witnessed the death of his wife without being able to feel the warmth of her body, he raised his daughter without being able to express emotions. All due to one man and the darkness that covered Dressrosa, Kyros suffered for 10 years and was the mastermind behind the SOP Strategy that began the rebellion to overthrow Doflamingo. They say revenge is sweet and what do you get when you mix revenge with a generous serving of justice? You get the perfect parfait. Diamante, the man responsible for the death of Scarlett and the person who antagonized Rebecca in the Colosseum, the man who stole the title "Hero Of The Colosseum" was standing against Kyros, who was fighting with every ounce of his energy to protect his daughter and take down the fluttering idiot who opposed him. It was a must for Kyros to win in order to not lose another member of his family, in order to make sure Rebecca doesn't ever need to fight again, to avenge his dead wife... and he triumphed in style, with the final blow credited to Scarlett's grave. Kyros' victory over Diamante had a huge impact, one of the first officers of the Donquixote Family to fall in battle dented the crew who had a powerful lineup which even Doflamingo was confident of. And no one can deny the joy it gave the fans, to see that human flag cut down with a blade of fury. Number 08: Edgy Tactics on Rocky Ground "Over the nine mountains and eight seas, there's nothing I can't cut!" It was Zoro who stood in Pica's way and let Luffy continue on towards Doflamingo, many fans stated that Pica was "stalling" Zoro and that is true to a certain extent, at the same time Zoro kept Pica occupied and interested in him so that he wouldn't go elsewhere to continue wrecking havoc. It was a battle that tested Zoro's skills against a devil fruit user who wasn't easy to cut right from the get-go, the high-pitched voice didn't help Zoro concentrate either (and had us giggling at those moments too!) However, when it was needed the most Zoro stepped up and shocked the entire nation of Dressrosa. When Pica seemed to have the upper hand (literally, a hand over the King's Plateau) Zoro came up with an idea that seemed so ridiculous that it could only be executed by him. When Tactics 1 to 4 didn't work, he came up with Tactics 5! Launched into the air thanks to Orlumbus he covered a substantial amount of distance flying only to unleash swift and precise attacks on the oversized Pica, who was left nowhere to run and had to show himself completely cladded in Armament Haki, but that didn't deter Zoro one bit... "Sanzen Sekai!!!" and it was all over. The fall of Pica, one of the officers of the Donquixote Family left the country in shock as everyone witnessed what happened and how one swordsman was responsible for completely destroying an unstoppable Pica. With the defeat of one of the officers known to everyone, it instilled confidence within the citizens of Dressrosa that they stood a chance against Doflamingo and his band of pirates, Zoro's victory ensured the safety of King Riku and his own crewmates and allies. It was a monumental victory in the battle against the Donquixote Family and showcased the fruits of Zoro's training during which he was kept away from alcohol, and last but not the least it made the fans shout "ZORO!" Number 07: Duking It Out with a Mammoth Cattitude "Do not assume for one second that you are the only obstinate, stubborn jackass roaming these parts... because no matter where you go, there's plenty of imbeciles abound!!!" The sight that Sanji and co. witnessed when they first laid their eyes on the legendary "Zou" civilization was that of disaster, and who caused this destruction? "Jack the Drought", one of the "calamities" under Yonko Kaido. He however didn't just blitz in and walk through Zou easily! When Jack arrived searching for "Raizou", he met one of the "rulers" of Zou, Duke Inuarashi. Jack who was in no mood for negotiation began rampaging with his crew backing him up. The 1 billion bounty man was stopped in his tracks by Inuarashi and the spectators from both sides were astonished and left speechless, as the day drew nearer to the end a certain cat growled and stepped into the battlefield. This "moron of the night" casually suplexed Jack while smiling, Master Nekomamushi the other "ruler" of Zou made everyone tremble from the get-go! Both Inuarashi and Nekomamushi took turns battling Jack and his crew for 5 days, and as the Minks began to break through his ranks Jack pulled out his trump card "Koro", devastating the Minks and their entire civilization with the chemical weapon created by Caesar Clown. His atrocity didn't end there, he tortured and eventually severed Master Nekomamushi's left hand and Duke Inuarashi's left leg. The brutality of Jack's action shocked the fanbase as dismemberment of limbs via torture was an extreme turn to the story which was never seen before (at least on-panel), the prowess of Master Nekomamushi and Duke Inuarashi earned them a soft spot in the hearts of all fans, and the progression of the plot once all the remaining members of the Straw Hat Pirates arrived on Zou was heavily influenced by this moment. Number 06: Hunger Games of the War of Thrones "There is but one vacant throne!! You understand, don't you?" The "charismatic" Heavenly Demon who was shot down by Monkey D. Luffy lived to speak another day, while being escorted to Impel Down he delivered one of the most powerful speeches in the series and declared the start of the "Throne Wars" or as is more famously known as "The Battle For Supremacy!" and "War of Hegemony!" Answering Tsuru's question with a question, Doflamingo dragged in all the big names who are part of the current generation - The Yonko, Shichibukai, Worst Generation Pirates, Marines, The Revolutionary Army, and the "D" clan that brings a storm wherever they go. He had strong words for the Celestial Dragons seated at Mariejois, "You will be dragged down from your palaces!!!" The speech left the fandom in awe, we knew that the "New World" would be the final leg of our protagonist's journey to become the Pirate King and that things would get intense, hearing Doflamingo's words with panels showcasing every relevant powerhouse just drove our excitement level to the max and had us going crazy speculating what the future would hold for us! Number 05: Kneeling Tiger, Floating Junk "If our credibility has been so compromised by the admission of a single mistake, it never existed in the first place!" The fierce wisteria tiger had lost his tooth while Luffy and Doflamingo clashed in a battle that would decide the fate of Dressrosa, he however made up for his lack of involvement after Doflamingo's defeat and his actions sent chills throughout the One Piece universe. Fujitora prostrated in front of King Riku and unconditionally rendered an apology speaking on behalf of the World Government for the tragedy that Dressrosa had to suffer due to one of the Shichibukai, Donquixote Doflamingo. His action angered the Red Dog, with whom he had a heated debate and was ordered to bring back the heads of the Straw Hat Pirates & Trafalgar Law. Fujitora decided to do things his own way and gambled to decide when he would go after the Straw Hat Pirates, when luck made the wisteria tiger bare his fangs against Luffy he showcased one of the reasons why he is an Marine Admiral... using his abilities he freed Dressrosa of all the rubble by floating them in the air - ready to use it to bring down the fleeing pirates! However, he didn't use the rubble to attack Straw Hats and their allies, the opposing fleet against the Straw Hat Pirates were on the receiving end of the Admiral's attack which ended with a sincere "thanks" to Luffy from the Admiral. Fujitora's actions post Doflamingo's defeat redeemed his character to a lot of fans, the short yet heated debate displayed that the tiger isn't afraid of the dog, and the floating junk was a testament of his abilities as one of the Marine Admirals. Number 04: A Living Relic Garnished With a Culinary Surprise! "It's said that their country's history stretches back nearly 1000 years without letting humans come near." News regarding Doflamingo's defeat spread like wildfire and thanks to the Straw Hat Pirates' involvement in this monumental victory, their bounties increased and the Marines issued new wanted posters. One wanted poster was different, special in a way and caught everyone's attention. Apart from an increase in bounty, Sanji was also wanted "Only Alive", something that has never been seen before in any wanted poster until now. This not only confused the Straw Hat Pirates, it also sent the fans on a frenzy! Just who is Sanji, why was he wanted "Only Alive"? And just who was so influential that they could control the content of a wanted poster!? Following the "Only Alive" shocker, we were in for two more back-to-back treats. First being the appearance of "Edward Weevil", self-proclaimed son of Whitebeard and the Seventh Shichibukai who is infamous for his strength as a pirate. He is on a mission to take down everyone who was associated with his late father Whitebeard and has been fairly successful up until now. The second being the arrival of the remaining members of the Straw Hats and Trafalgar Law to the island of Zou... but it wasn't really an island! This civilization that has kept itself aloof from the human world for nearly 1000 years was not an ordinary island... it was a civilization atop a humongous elephant that has lived for more than 1000 years! Sanji and Co. were the first to make it to Zou, however we did not witness the humongous elephant initially and only a small skirmish with Sheepshead. The elephant's existence and presumed life span which predates even the void century had the fans excited and looking forward to the adventures of Luffy and Co. in Zou! Sanji's "Only Alive" wanted poster gave birth to many new speculations and theories with regards to his lineage, who he is, who would be the influential individual or group to control his bounty poster and a lot more. Many of us missed the ero-cook during his absence in Dressrosa, that however changed with just one chapter and the entire fandom was talking about one man, Sanji! Number 03: A String of Defeats You Cannot Bounce Back From "I won't let anyone die...!!! You and your "bird cage" are standing in my way.... GEAR FOURTH!" It was his will to save his comrade and protect all of them that made him develop "Gear Second" and "Gear Third" at Enies Lobby, and ever since Luffy has been improving his techniques and fighting strong opponents... however it wasn't "enough" for the big bad Doflamingo, who shrugged off Gear Second attacks as "fast" yet lacking a "punch" and found lots of openings in Luffy's defense when he used Gear Third. Luffy needed to take down Doflamingo, and he needed to do that quickly. It was time he showed us the fruits of his two years of training... he declared that Doflamingo was the one standing in his way and that he would defeat him at all costs, and then came "Gear Fourth!" Luffy's appearance while using Gear Fourth was very similar to the fierce guardian entity called Nio, and he lived up to the ferocity of "protecting" everyone he cared for. Starting out with a "Kong Gun", he sent Doflamingo flying across Dressrosa like a pinball, and followed it up with "Rhino Schneider" and "Culverin", completely dominating Doflamingo. However, Doflamingo did momentarily bounce back with his "awakening" but it was short lived as he took a direct hit from Luffy's "Leo Bazooka" which had him stuck on the side of King's Plateau for a good few minutes. Gear Fourth however, was taxing and Luffy lost his ability and haki for 10 minutes, during which various elements and people in Dressrosa bought time for Luffy, and the final countdown begun with him re-appearing in front of Doflamingo, saving Rebecca, and gearing up for the final blow. The spectacle took place high above the land of Dressrosa, Doflamingo's "God Thread" clashed with Luffy's determined and powerful "King Kong Gun" which ended with Doflamingo's complete and utter defeat. Even the glasses which were considered invincible by the fans broke! Gear Fourth and the following battle between Doflamingo and Luffy had the fans on the edges of their seats, King Kong Gun was the new "Jet Pistol" in terms of speed, power and surprising the opponent. The high and mighty "charismatic" Heavenly Demon was shot down from his adobe and suffered a defeat he couldn't bounce back from. Number 02: If He's Here, Who's Running Hell!? "Everyone says, "In a one-on-one" always bet on Kaido. For he is the pirate called "the strongest creature" amongst all things that live on the land, in the sea, or in the air...!!!" Luffy & Law formed an alliance to bring down Yonko Kaido, by destroying the SMILE Factory in Dressrosa and disrupting the chain of supply for the fake devil fruits they intended to weaken Kaido and bait him out. It was only a matter of time before we saw Kaido move... but no one expected him to be introduced in such a manner! Falling from a sky island 10,000 feet above the ground, this man wanted to "suicide" but crashed right into Kid, Hakwins and Apoo's party. His introduction stated that he single-handedly challenged the Marines & Yonko, was captured 18 times, tortured over a thousand times. He was sentenced to death 40 times, but when they hung him the chains broke... when they sent him to the guillotine, the blade shattered. Even when they impaled him, the spears broke! Ultimately, he sunk nine great prison ships. In other words... no one could kill this man! He declared that he wishes to start the world's greatest war, and that coming from a Yonko means near destruction of the entire world! It's also nick-named by members on Oro Jackson as "the chapter that crashed the server" and had all the whole fandom screaming his name, "KAIDO!" Number 01: Two-Face, A Giant and A Chicken Walk into a Fleet "These 7 rogues who assembled to declare themselves to be Straw Hat Luffy's subordinates, everyone of them will grow on their own and eventually leave their names in the annals of history.. They will bring about a "great incident"... but that is a tale that no one yet knows." As the Straw Hat Pirates continue on in their journey, they will face new challenges, new opponents and new obstacles that they must overcome. With Luffy's dream of becoming the Pirate King, he will be someone of "importance" although all he wishes is freedom. It was the perfect time for the "Straw Hat Pirates" to grow in terms of numbers... and it was delivered to us in the form of the "Straw Hat Grand Fleet!" Those who fought alongside Luffy against Doflamingo came together to form the Grand Fleet under Straw Hat Luffy's command, and although Luffy's definition of the Grand Fleet was different and he didn't agree to be "formal" and be considered a "boss" - the other representatives (Cavendish, Bartolomeo, Sai, Ideo, Leo, Hajrudin and Orlumbus) formed the Grand Fleet under Luffy's command by their own free will. The formation of the Grand Fleet was symbolic, the Straw Hat Pirates were growing as a crew. A bond formed over the exchange of "sake cups" was heartwarming and a sign for many things to come in the future... "they will bring about a "great incident"... but that is a tale that no one yet knows." "We do hereby become your subordinates, ever ready to act as your shield and spear, boss Straw Hat Luffy!!! In repayment for our debt of gratitude, we 7 men pledge our whole lives on these "child sake cups" and humbly receive them because we're free to do whatever we want!!!" The fans could not help but be in awe due to the formation of a 5600 strong "Grand Fleet!" And we know very well in our hearts and mind that when the Grand Fleet appears to back up their "boss" Luffy... it's going to be one of the most memorable moments in One Piece.
