    Awesome stuff

    Thanks @Mr. Kishido

Oda revealing more on how he writes specific arcs and notable characters. Very interesting to note that he decided on Ro Lucci as an antagonist pretty much as the arc itself was developing. Not something pre-planned in advance. That it worked shows how good his world-building and story writing is that he can slot in a villain and not disrupt the arc too much.

Lmao i love Oda's words. One can truly see how randomly some things in a manga gets decided which have such a huge impact on the audience that we audience can't believe it. Randomly decided to draw a weird dude with a pigeon, result --> one of the most badass villains in One Piece. :yaaa:

Puts fuel to the fire that some 'theorise' Bobbins may have been planned to have a larger role back in FI, but in the subsequent time Oda changed his mind...err not me of course :oops::oops:

Rob Lucci one of the most badass villains in One Piece and Oda drew him just like that without even thinking about it guess that's why he is called Goda and that's why One Piece is the number 1 manga.. just too awesome........

Very interesting! This explains a lot for me.

I always thought Rob Lucci to be the least interesting "big villain" when it comes to his character purpose.

Crocodile's purpose have something to do with the reason why he was searching for an ancient weapon, and the secret Ivankov talked about.
Enel's purpose in the story have something to do with the moon and the true history.
Moria's purpose seems to have something to do with Kaido.

All had reasons why they were introduced, reasons that would allow the author to introduce them once again in the story and also reasons that would make the fan say " yes I want to see him back, and what he's going to do to accomplish his goal". You can feel Oda didn't create them in the last minute.

But, Lucci just seems to be there. no dream, no ambition, no goal, just here executing orders blindly. At first I thought well that's because his simply a soldier. And when you see a fan saying "yes I want to see Lucci back" it's just because he is a badass.... Not saying he isn't great, he's one of my favorites. But still, something felt off about him.

I love how Oda made Lucci the antagonist in this arc. Like his design and everything. He looks badass for a villain if you ask me.

That's partly due to the fact that Spandam is the true villain of the Water 7 Saga while Lucci is the strongest antagonist and the biggest obstacle to the protagonist's goal to retrieve Nico Robin.

That's what made him so unique. He wasn't pulling any strings, he was there for the fight, and boy did he ever provide one.

let's make this weird guy with a pigeon the villain ?

I respect that .... he always tries to surprise us , first he asks his assistants what about Ace being Roger's son at the last moment before MF War and then he make Rob just before the arc started ...

I love Oda's reference to Carrot. He shows he wrote it as a quirk or something unique to her character that she always says.

The Rob Lucci stuff was interesting too. For someone as important as a character as Lucci in that arc, it sure didn't seem like Oda put all that much effort into his design which is surprising because it looks awesome. Just goes to show how great a mangaka Oda is.

Interesting how he also intentionally misled the audience as to who was going to join the crew. He made everyone hate Franky but also created Paulie a very good shipwright who was nice so we believed he would join instead.

Oda should probably start to do things more on a whim then. Everything he decided on a whim have been a great success popularity wise:

    - Shanks losing his arm for Luffy moment
    - Lucci villain moment
    - Shanks stopping the war moment
    - Sabaody Supernova moment

All of these ones ended up having a benefic impact to the story, much more than other things he planned in advance like Fishmen island, Big Mom or other stuffs like that

I get the vibe certain aspects of BM's character as well as how the arc is developing suggests that he is winging it (at least some of it)
