This last chapter really showed just a glimpse into Kaido's reign over Wano in contrast with Big Mom. While the Big Mom Pirates were ruthless and their leader is tyrannical, at least they tried to make things pleasant for the populace they were ruling under. However, Kaido just shows that he cares more about conquering and subjugating his territory. We saw how Big Mom build up factories, in order so her aligned countries would keep her in their good graces or they would be burned down. However, Kaido builds his factories, and causes the citizens to be poisoned and is heavily implied to be the source of the famine going on. It just shows the different type of tyrants they are.

Big Mom might be ruthless but she seems to be really competent at ruling Totto Land and into making it a prosper and peaceful country when she isn't in her crazed phases, and she gives herself the image of a good and competent queen and many of the Charlotte family children seem to be loved by the population like Moscato, Pudding or Perospero and they seem to care for the citizens in return as shown with Moscato and Amande.

She also built a country from the ground up as well. Kaido pretty much invaded Wano and has the shogun on his payroll as well. And probably the reason why Big Mom tries to run the country well is because in her own mindset she believes everything she does is righteous and kind, even when it's obviously not. Kaido is just apathetic to morals and just cares about what will give him a great war to end the world. It shows how optimistic Big Mom is, in contrast with how Kaido has a nihilistic view of the world.

Yes Big Mom is a knight templar who despite her cruelty and madness really wish to bring peace and hapiness to her country while Kaido couldn't care less about the people he rules.

With Kaido, he's more of a conqueror than a ruler. He only seems to hand over positions to his subordinates and make them to do the thinking, while he focuses on building stuff for his great war front. In a way, it will be what make him be defeated before Big Mom because he actively oppresses his citizens while she at least can still have support from them even though she causes her own set of destruction.

This is one of the many contrasts between Kaido and Big Mom.

Both are ruthless, but BM cares about appearances. Offers invitation to tea party, if one refuses to attend, family member dies.

Its clearly Oda potrayed both of them like totally diffent kind of rulers.

Actually Bigmom just followed her mindset since she was a child, and till now still nothing change about her in that many years, althought she did it in a wrong way, ( same like what she did since she was a child ), her intention is still " good ", her kingdom is still somewhat decent, she has some nice kids aswell.

Kaido is totally different story, he is a conqueror, a warmonger, he builds up his army, use all resources into warfare, he razes and subjugates, as potrayed like mongol army.

This. Big Mom doesn’t actually “care” about the citizens of Tottoland she just cares about maintaining the image of a peaceful utopia regardless of if her citizens are actually happy or not. Her children on the other hand may not act tyrannical towards the citizens but they certainly have a hand to play in her tyranny against her protectorates.

Also @jazzyjoy92 Big Mom actually conquered Tottoland from its former ruler albeit 60+ years ago... It wasn’t really built from the ground up. Streussen and Big Mom simply used their powers to morph the geography of the country.

i wouldnt say its tyranny because they can leave if they want to but they dont leave...and its already been shown the citizens love every minister and they are doing good job in protecting citizens...BM too has the final goal of making everyone happy its just because of her past and Carmels influence...her mindset is such that what she is doing is good for everyone too....well totland does seem to be a very good country regardless of the rulers being pirates.

You do understand that they would literally lose their lifespan/loved ones if they ever tried to leave??

Despite being hammered into our heads multiple times, did you completely miss that concept?

Yes Big Mom might be crazy but in her mind what she is doing is good and she really want to make the world a peaceful place while Kaido wants to destroy it and makes no efforts to hide to the people he rules that he couldn't care less about them.

It's leaving the BMP to be exact. We have seen a citizen voluntarily gave a part of her soul when being asked "Leave or Life". So yes, it's highly possible that the citizen really do have the option to leave, and they just choose not to.

no..you are wrong. they have the choice to stay or leave...i thought maybe deep down even with that the citizens will feel like they dont like the queen since she always goes on rampage....but it was not the case too..it was shown later...they are ok with it..they dont have any ill will towards BM too...they are fine and concerned about the rampages but still chose to stay in totland.

Hard to say if those who chose to leave, were killed or not. Though based on BMs way of handling things I wouldn't be surprised.
I just don't see what's the difference between Jinbe leaving & that of a normal citizen doing the same thing. Heck, she was willing to destroy FI(her allies), not cause they wanted to free themselves from her but cause they were late bringing the candy, why spare the citizens for deciding to part ways?

As people have noted before, Big Mom has a very capitalist type mindset. She's pragmatic despite being ruthless, which is seen in the way she rules because she knows in order to run an empire you need income and resources to sustain it. As many people have pointed out, if Big Mom was replaced as ruler her empire would be as tyrannical as it is now. However, with Kaido is build with bad intentions from the bottom and up, and I think a lot of people would benefit if he was toppled over.

Also many of Big Mom children treat the citizens nicely like Moscato or Perospero.

Kaido polluting the factory in a way can be seen comparable to the life tax. The life tax you have the appearance of choice, but Big Mom usually still doesn't like people leaving due to her abandonment issues. However, with Kaido, people don't even get that and are straight forced to endure his lack of care for their wellbeing.
