It turns out that there are more differences between Attack on Titan creator Hajime Isayama and Gundam creator Yoshiyuki "Kill 'Em All" Tomino than just the use of "pornographic" violence. Unlike old Minagoroshi no Tomino, Isayama is reluctant to slaughter his cast.

In an interview with White-Screen.jp, Isayama has said that he's been evolving his manga, with new elements being added.

However, one of the more substantial changes to the series' direction is that he was abandoned plans for an audience traumatizing ending. He had been thinking about something along the lines of the Frank Darabont adaptation Stephen King's The Mist, but response to the series, and especially his anime adaptation has left him unable take that path, and a bit lost. With all the support that the series has received, he didn't want to slam the fans with a traumatic conclusion.

Isayama can certainly empathize with fans. As bit of an otaku, he touches on his appreciation of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Muv-Luv during the course of the interview.

I just read this on another forum ... Even though im no AoT/SnK fan this kinda puts you off as he's letting fame change his own opinion of how to end the series. (Hope he dont end it like SAO)

Tbh the new necessities will include a whole new world into the current verse but i hope he rather ends it with an question like how Code Geass and Deadman Wonderland are

Slaughtering the cast and leaving Eren forever alone was clearly his fail safe if the manga was at any point gonna bomb, glad he's open minded, though I doubt changing something in his series due to the success and fame is a bad thing in this case, there's quite enough traumatic stuff that happened in the series, why end it on a depressing note?

True its just if you take a look at Sword Art Online once fame hit the anime look how that went, thats what i am trying to say in which i hope he dont end it like how that ended but on a different note where it would rather leave the viewer open minded that it ended on different notes so like how Code Geass ended or maybe something like Deadman Wonderland where we saw everyone living there lives openly and some time down the line.

I never watched SAO(friends warned me numerous times) in my life or Code Geass, but I did read and finished Deadman Wonderland, I certainly hope AOT ending is something like that.

All for the better I hope.

I wonder what kind o changes he made? I'd say if he tried to kill off Levi the fangirls would lynch him.
    And cool, he likes Jojo's!

To me, this sounds pandering. BUT, and this is a very big but, the ending that he had originally planned is something that people would either love and hate. If he can pull off a better ending or a much more "reasonable" ending, then i'm all for it. If he can explain all the stuff and all the sub-plots that he had in this series, then go ahead Isayama. Make any kind of ending you want.
Honestly, i would have wanted a bitter sweet ending in this kind of series rather than an uber tragic ending.

The story began with tragedy so I won't be surprised if it ends with an even bigger tragedy.

But that isn't the case anymore. Isayama mentioned in the interview that he indeed wanted to kill everyone in the end. But now that the fanbase is way larger than it is before and probably mostly composed of 12 year olds, he would not do a very uber tragic ending because of the fans. Honestly, the fact that Eren also had an another power where he can control titans or whatever is an another testament of the change in the plot. If you think about it he would not bother to create such power if he wanted to kill everyone in the end in the first place. Humanity is so hilariously hopeless and without knowing this Titan shifting power that Eren have, i bet they wouldn't even recaptured a wall in the next hundred years.

It would be horrible if everyone died in the end.I mean this isn't Final Destination.xD
At least the main characters should survive. And I am quite sure that he never planned to kill Eren at any stage.

I am happy. An ending like that would have left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Interesting to see the author changing the ending. Curious if he'll ever release his intended ending had it never been this popular xD

If it was well done and with proper reason, it could work. GoT for example... The ending can be done well even if all are killed :p
