The 36th daughter of the Charlotte family, Flampe, has been the center of much discussion since her introduction, such as the spelling of her name or her exact placement in the Charlotte family, but there is one question I've had that I haven't seen anyone discussing: why can she float?
Most people probably assumed it was a Devil Fruit ability right off the bat, and I'm inclined to agree, but I want to look at just what that ability might be.
Many of the Charlotte family's Devil Fruits are food related, such as Katakuri's Mochi-Mochi Fruit or Perospero's Lick-Lick Fruit, so I think it's safe to say that Flampe's likely is as well, and going by the above panel, I'd say it's a safe bet that her food of choice is bubble gum.
Not only does the bubble she's blowing have a similar shape to her rounded bottom, but both have the same curved motion lines implying that they both have something of a bounce to them.
It's hard to say what the exact mechanics of her Devil Fruit are, but going by her inflated posterior, I believe that there are two possibilities:
I'm personally leaning towards the latter, as it looks more like she's inflated her clothes rather than her rear, and it would also be a more practical ability on the whole.
- Flampe's body is made of bubble gum and she is able to blow bubbles into any part of her which she can then float on
- Flampe is able to blow bubbles into anything as if it were bubble gum, inflating the object of her choice and giving it the ability to float
The former is still definitely a possibility, though, and it might give her certain defensive properties such as being able to absorb blunt attacks and repel bullets, similar to another gum-like Devil Fruit, Luffy's very own Gum-Gum Fruit.
This is further supported by the other major point of discussion about Flampe; her parallel ambition to Luffy's.
While being the best little sister isn't exactly comparable to being the freest pirate, her wording is almost exactly the same as the way that Luffy declares that he is the man that will become the Pirate King. Whatever this line means for her character, her relationship with Katakuri, or how she'll contribute to the story in the coming chapters, I think it's a clear indicator that she is meant to be some kind of parallel to Luffy, and thus likely foreshadows her gum-based Devil Fruit.
If I had to make a guess as to the name of this Devil Fruit, I would put money on either Gamu-Gamu (literally Gum-Gum, whereas Gomu strictly speaking means rubber in Luffy's case) or Chuu-Chuu (Chew-Chew, short for chewing gum).
Since she's being set up as a parallel to Luffy, there are definitely a ton of ways that this can play out, such as inspiring a new way for Luffy to use the Gum-Gum Fruit, Luffy somehow manipulating her to help him beat Katakuri, or even Katakuri somehow combining his mochi abilities with her gum abilities. It could even be leading to a simple gag that contributes nothing to the fight but is just a cute moment for the readers.
Regardless of how it goes, Flampe is definitely meant to be some kind of parallel to Luffy, and her Devil Fruit is very likely going to reflect that in some way. Fortunately, we probably won't have to wait too much longer to find out, as it seems that the fight with Katakuri is quickly approaching its climax.
