Sure the number is intimidating but once you start you won't be able to stop As for why you should watch it, if you liked Naruto and Bleach, like half of the non-Japanese anime fans, then you will love One Piece. If you are completely new to anime/manga. I suggest you start with One Piece because you won't find any better anime/manga series than One Piece!

You may be like me and may think it's not particularly interesting. In that case I dare you to go on because if you're like me there's that possibility that it just may take some time to grow on you. You'll end up loving it for the vast number of things One Piece does to you and with you. All I'm saying is give it a try, you never know how things will turn out until you try.

Why should you start reading One Piece? That's a good question and I guess the only answer would be because you like what it is and what it stands for and think you may be able to enjoy it and keep up enjoying on a regular basis, if not then don't read it because stuff that ain't enjoyable are stuff we shouldn't do.

Other than that, I love how almost none of the characters are ever forgotten. They always reappear, in one way or another, whether it be on a manga cover or a little chunk of a chapter, or even their own anime episode. In other anime and manga, side characters can be important in one arc and completely forgotten for the rest of the series. That doesn't happen here.
And I've always loved the adventure element of it. I love watching Luffy and his crew explore exotic, bizarre islands and meet exotic, bizarre people.

Its cool to see the way the characters bond as friends over time and how they become like a family, all the while becoming stronger to help Luffy in his dream. The action is uberamazingtastic, the storyline and arcs are very thought out and unique, and the show overall will blow you away. Go watch it. Now. And if you prefer Manga, I'd suggest watching a few of the episodes first, to truly grasp the characters, before reverting to manga.
A word of advice to people who wish to start One Piece, you will not find the ability to give the series a chance if you watch it dubbed through the first few episodes. 4Kids owned the series then, and they slandered the series with sensors, bad dubbing, and making the series seem like a dump overall. I suggest, if the series interests you, as it should, to watch the first few episodes subbed. Anime in the raw is really cool to watch, even if you have problems reading subs.

The characters are all amazing in their own ways, it would take to much time to get into each one. So for a quick over all idea, I can grantee that most of the characters in one piece have more than one dimension. You'll have the generic "pirate", "marine", etc thrown in, but all the main characters that matter have more to them then what they claim to be or how they go about themselves. I really enjoy how Oda manages to really tie all the characters together throughout the story, most notably with the Strawhat Crew.
While im thinking of Oda, Let me toss him the massssssssive amount of respect that I have for his ability to tell a really good story. One Piece might seem to start out slow, but it picks up really fast, and before you know it you'll be reading chapter after chapter or watching 5 or 10 episodes at a time. There are a few "dry" moments but they dont drag on like other anime/mangas seem to. Oda is also a master of plot twists, cliff hangers, and pretty much everything else.
Another thing that makes One Piece so great is the fact that its not that hard to get a feel for the world that they live in. The Geography is explained relatively early, and its not crazy complex nor to simple. The laws of their world are also kinda told early on and you can really get a feel for how those work as you read/watch the series progress. One of the best things about it all though is that characters, setting and plot really ties together to make you want to read/watch more and do more. If your anything like me, you'll even eventually find yourself wondering what it would be like to be part of that world, it gets really emersive.
Now, if your just starting out with One Piece, I recommend that you try reading it first, see if you really like the story and characters. Push through East Blue, It gets sooooo much better, I promise. As I said at the start of this post, if the art bugs you, please give it a chance, don't miss out on such an amazing story cause of that. As for the characters, if you find one or two that annoy you, dont let that ruin it either. I cannot stand a few characters, however there are other ones that have come along that make up for them!
So if you like adventure, pirates, treasure, great characters and pure epicness, here is where you can get started.

About the author Oda. He's a genius, making One Piece as it is now. I have great respect for him and looking forward to another epic story each week.
I always think of One Piece whenever I'm alone like taking a bath, walking in the park, and sitting alone. One Piece makes me feel I have company. To put simply it makes my time worth living for. If you like action, adventure, friendship, pirates, fantasy and comedy then One Piece is for you.

At first I was taken aback by watching over 500 episodes so I could catch up, but when I started with the series, I never actually stopped for even a day to continue. It took me months to watch them all, but I never regretted a single thing about it. Even after 1.,5 years my love for One Piece has never faltered.
Off course I've watched the Anime in Japanese with subs (Kaizoku fansubs is a good start!) Since the English animators have the tend to cut scenes or censor them. Off course the voices are much better in Japanese as well! They really give the character the personality they have with the voice!
First I had a bit of a tough time to get into it. At first One Piece almost seemed childish with all over-done reactions and funny special-effects-sound they've used in the Anime, but all of this gets less with each episode. After a while it has some seriousness that it will actually surprise you.
With each person introduced you get to know that every character has their own qualities which gives variety in the Anime. Everyone has their own personality as well. This was also the first time in my life that I never hated or disliked a character of the main cast. I had a dislike for some at the beginning, but after a couple of episodes and explanation of their personalities, it began to lessen and I even started to like them as well. You really grow on with the characters and yet every one of them will surprise you over time again.
While you have cool characters in the cast, the less cool, but more funny, characters also have their charm. One Piece really has the popularity when it comes to a combination of action, humor and adventure. The elements of surprise are also often seen in the story as well.
The story itself is deep, meaningful and even is something we can learn from. Every character has a story of their own and some of them made even my heart ache with sadness. You'll understand what I mean if you watch the Anime yourself. It's a story that is worth to be told, no matter how long it is.
The humor in the Anime is well-timed and it made me laugh out loud most of the time, or in the least I would snicker from them. The humor varies, but unlike Bleach or Naruto, it never reduces. They tend to put more humor with serious situations, that makes it unpredictable and even more funny. It's one of the many reasons I love One Piece.
And the action will just blow you away. Unlike with some other anime, the characters really build up power and you really see them getting stronger. This also means that they get stronger enemies over time, but the fights are never predictable and is full of stunning action. Variation in attacks are seen and different situations really make the characters have to come up with different plans to win. They are not only fights with just power, but smartness is included as well. And with each fights they also have their humor parts that always lighten the mood a bit in the Anime.
More than often as the Anime made me smile, has awed me and made me think about some things in my life and what I want to do with it. It is hard to explain more of the awesomeness of it, it is something that you have to see it for yourself. But trust me, it will really be worth your time! And when you're done with the Anime? Well, start with the Manga then!

Oda the author of one piece has a lot of respect from me, I can not even begin to imagine how much he works but he gives it his best in One Piece, he has a lot of creativity and skill and surely knows his history!
Why I think people should follow One Piece? Well I ask you, why not? Give me one reason and no just because its long is not a valid reason.

That alone cuts the show down by approximately 160 episodes, making it seem a lot less intimidating, and once you begin watching, you definitely won't want to stop. Through the epic journey that is One Piece you will very likely have many laughs, and at times it could even pass for the kids show it is perceived by some to be, but at the same time the show has powerful messages and themes that you may not expect at first glance, and many heartwarming and thought-provoking moments that just really strike you in meaningful ways. Some of these themes and ideas include the negatives of racism, human trafficking, stealing and ravaging, protecting the things that are important to you, and having perseverance even when faced with seemingly impossible odds. These things along with many others have even made One Piece one of the few pieces of media I have ever shed tears over. Your bond formed with the characters will be something truthfully magical as each of them has something that you can relate to, as well as realistic flaws that resonate with you on a deeper level. This along with its amazingly romantic but very mysterious story, and its nicely executed and well animated fight scenes all add to the perfect balance that the author has created. In conclusion One Piece is a true masterpiece beyond words, and any attempt I could have at trying to summarize it's greatness would probably be less personal and less informative than the experience that you could have with watching it.
So I have only one question, why aren't you watching One Piece?
Length?
You can take as long as you want, even an episode a day is good progress, and it doesn't seem quite so bad when you can skip around 1/5th of the entire show if you want, dose it?
It's for kids? The animation style is childish?
I can assure you that this show is definitely not for young children with some of the themes I discussed proving that. The animation just isn't really valid enough reasoning, try to simply look at the show from an unbiased viewpoint and the animation would quickly grow on you with the charming, warm, vibrantness that encompasses it all.
I truthfully cannot think of a single other thing that could be keeping you from watching it, so go! That's right, go give it a try! It certainly can't hurt you!
If you're still reading this why aren't you watching One Piece yet? Go on! Sail the Grand Line with your precious nakama! Find the treasure that is One Piece!

As an OP fan, it is really close to me. It might sound a bit awkward to others, but it is. Because me and my little brother (whom I used to play PS and RPG's with a lot! ) along with my little sister absolutely loved OP! We would play its games, watch new episodes, watch opening and endings and absolutely crave for new and old AMV's! We would actually waste half of our day doing this kiddish stuff..!! Before we knew it, he was Ace, me Luffy and my little sister Sanji!! (a little bit weird ! hahahaha! ) My brother actually admired CP9 (especially Lucci) and Ace's strength and he'd always pretend that he were them! But then, he was actually very weak willed, and weak in health. He was suffering from Cystic fibrosis, so were we, but it wasn't serious for us ladies. He was on medications since he was born till the day he passed away. To begin with, people suffering from CF have little short span of life. At the end of his days, he especially requested me to let him watch OP opening 5 and watch Ace vs Black beard fight. He had been circling hospitals roads, but now it was serious and he was admitted. Of course the doctors couldn't save him because he had excess of CO2 in his lungs and that he was not communicating anymore with the real world, that is forgetting to take breaths, only ventilator was helping him to survive. He died right before the Marineford arc. As I was reading the Marineford arc, and find out that Ace actually dies, I felt really different. When my little brother didn't give up fighting that serious disease and continued to live more than what doctors presumed, than I am sure we grwon ups can overcome great hurdles.
So yea, OP is 'this' much close to my heart. And I'd recommend everyone, whether it be a teenager, an adult and even oldie locks, that they should give it a try. They might find themselves in place of Luffy, Ace or Lucci or even Akainu!! So lets pick up this manga and see what it has in store for us. Plus, it is the ONLY manga in the world that can make you laugh and as well as cry at the same time!
I am not that much of a feeling opener ( ) because I hate this kind of act, but it is merely just a little part of me playing a role for telling some readers out there to give OP a try. I hope they do!!

But it popped up in my mind maybe I should try watching it. Then I decided to watch it from the start. I started watching the OP Last October 22, 2012 and finished it to the latest at that time within 2 and half weeks. At that time I didn’t even bother how long it is, because I had fun watching it.
Now, I always watch back those funny episodes and episodes with cool lines like in the thriller bark “ Zoro told Kuma that he will give a head, but not luffy’s head instead his head….and He shout it to Kuma that LUFFY IS GONNA BECOME THE PIRATE KING”.!

OP is one of a kind, it doesn't follow the typical animes where the boss are serious as hell and have scary facial expressions while the protagonist have some supporting character that is very dependent on the protagonist & will break free of it's shell and become more independent. It follows its own rules that can make you shout "WOAH THAT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN!!" and it can be unpredictable. The first thing that amused me about OP is that the protagonist has his weakness laid out in front of him, like a bear riding a unicycle through a rope. While other and most anime protagonists have their weakness hidden, or soon to be revealed, OP revealed to the fans that luffy's weakness and all the other DF eaters its weakness on some 10th, 11th episode.(1st or 2nd chapter in the manga). The second thing that amused me about this series is the unique names of the places and the characters and their unique laughs. Like Water 7 or Enies Lobby, Baby 5 or Arlong, Dereshishishi or Kishishishi. And also the sudden enragement of the characters because of a random act of stupidity. Also the Arc's antagonist. Their behavior and facial expressions makes you want to choke them. But the very thing that makes me follow this series to the end is it's unique story. Well, every anime have unique stories but not all can be as good as OP. Sometimes there's stories that doesn't make sense until this arc and sometimes its sad and depressing that that arc is better than drama tv shows (e.g. Chopper's past & Robin's, made me cry almost cry). One of my favorite arc is the Sabaody Archipelago arc. why? because it tells us that not all protagonists can win just by fighting over and over and over again and never giving up, it even has this scene where luffy has this emotional breakdown because of how impossible it is to win in their state, and how can he be a pirate king if he can't even protect his friends. Another scene where he saved Ace. It's like his mind is set to save Ace in that event and when he really did saved Ace, he thought that nothing could go wrong. Then Ace died, in front of him, it's like, he just spaced out.And there's also this thing about the Void Century. There is something to it that makes me want to know more about it. It's like I want to somehow warp inside OP world then ask Rayleigh about it. Maybe there's something about conspiracies that keeps me on my toes, idk.
Anyway, I'll give this anime a 10 thumbs up, over 9000 stars over 10 stars. Really, there's just something to it that makes you wanna watch it until the end. One Piece is the BEST ANIME OUT THERE!!!!!!!!!! Even though I haven't watched that many animes. Yohohohoho!
